However, the Stags are not alone in their pursuit with Preston North End, Wigan and Shrewsbury all said to be interested in the 22-year-old.

Former Manchester United youngster Khan scored 22 goals in 67 games over two seasons at Yeovil, where a ‘substantial’ bid was made for him in the January window.

Khan started out in United’s youth system before joining Sheffield United’s academy, making two first team appearances, and going on to play on loan for Buxton, Matlock Town and Barrow on loan.

After a short time at Barnsley, he moved on to Yeovil where he has become a crowd favourite.

Only yesterday Mansfield were also linked with a move for another exciting, young forward in Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker.

Boss David Flitcroft admitted he was an admirer of Walker but would not confirm the rumour.

He has brought two players in so far this summer but said he hoped to tie up another deal or two this week.
