Angry Teversal fuming over red cards afer four-goal drubbing

After three wins and a draw in their previous four Toolstation Northern Counties East League, First Division games, Teversal tumbled to a 4-0 defeat and had both Richard Guest and James McCann sent off.

But they were left fuming by the performance of Yorkshire referee Lee Hible, accusing him and his linesmen of “inconsistent decisions that led to the game being nothing more than a training exercise” for Emley.

Teversal were already a goal down when they lost Guest in a controversial 21st minute clash that also ended in the home side doubling their lead with a penalty. The visitors felt that home player Keiran Ryan should have been penalised after shoving and kicking out at Guest, but when the two players went nose to nose, Hible showed the Teversal man a straight red and pointed to the spot.

Star man Ashley Flynn duly smashed home the kick to add to the breakthrough goal he had scored in the sixth minute when nodding home on the line after Ruben Jerome had headed a Michael Tunnicliffe free-kick goalwards.

There was little doubt that Emley deserved their advantage, although they were helped by some kamikaze defending by the visitors, who also missed injured key duo Brett Watson and Khyle Sargent. Indeed Teversal failed to create a chance of their own until the 43rd minute when McCann, Jason Gregory and Kyle Hempshall went close.

They should have halved the deficit when Lewis Weaver fired inches wide after a defensive clanger. However, Teversal’s frustrations piled up early in the second half. First, they were infuriated when Jerome escaped unpunished for an apparent elbow in the face of McCann. And moments later, they were reduced to nine men when McCann, having been booked earlier, received his second yellow for a clumsy challenge and promptly joined Guest in an early bath.

“It was a farce that turned into a circus,” said Teversal spokesman Kev Newton. “From then on, the game was nothing more than an attack-versus-defence training-session drill.” The back four and goalkeeper Dale Sheppard stood up to the test well. But they conceded two more goals as Jerome got a lucky ricochet in a challenge with Gary Atkins to break clear and finish clinically in the 70th minute and Flynn completed his hat-trick in injury-time when heading home a chipped cross to the far post by Ryan.

This Saturday, Teversal aim to get back on track in an away trip to Rossington Main.
