The Parishioners are currently preparing for their second season at step five level with Moore confident they will not feel the pinch from the coronavirus fall-out.

“We are probably one of the few clubs at step five that are not affected,” he said. “We have not really got any financial obligations, we don’t play our players or have contracts or anything like that.

“We don’t have outstanding debts. Our finances are all self generated through the gates, so we are pretty much self sustained anyway.

“A few lads that have been with other clubs in the local area are unsure what is happening with their club, and they are interested in joining us now we are staying at step 5.”

Selston endured a tough first season in the Midland Premier League and were bottom of the pile when the season was cut short.

It is a position the Parish Hall Ground side are eager to avoid next time out as they look to show what they can do.

And Moore believes key to having a better season will be how they manage some of the long distance journeys.

“Previously we have usually played local teams in local leagues and progressed, you know who you are playing against,” he said.

“When we went into the Midland league we were playing teams and players we had never heard of before.

“It was a challenge in that respect. I think it has opened our eyes, personally, as a team and as a club.

“The level jump between step six and step five was huge. We thought seven to step six was big, but this one was massive.

“The travelling affects a lot of clubs. The majority are based locally, but the likes of ourselves, Long Eaton, Gresley and Newark have a lot of travelling and you need players willing to travel.

“It is a strange feeling really. Last season feels a free hit and we have had a look at what the standard is like.

“This season will be nice to have a fresh start for players and manager. It is up to everyone to come to pre-season and set their stall out.”
