Reds manager Nicky Law has had his options cut by a groin injury suffered by defender Dan Gray during last Saturday’s 4-2 win over Torquay United. The former Lincoln City man will be out for up to three weeks.

Gray joins Nathan Hicks, Andi Thanoj and Chris Smith on the treatment table as does striker Paul Clayton who aggravated an existing knee injury during his sterling efforts against Torquay.

Law will be looking for his side to build on last weekend’s excellent result and performance against Torquay and a win could seriously close the gap on the clubs immediately above them in the table.

Manager Steve Burr’s Chester side go into the game sat in sixteenth place in the table with 20 points from their opening sixteen league games.

Another tough game is in prospect as Chester have been particularly strong at home this season and have accrued thirteen of their total points on home soil.

Wins have been secured against Macclesfield Town (1-0), Southport (2-0), Wrexham (2-1) and Aldershot Town (1-0).

They have shared the points on one occasion at home, drawing 1-1 with Welling United.

Defeats have been suffered against Barnet who strolled to a 5-0 victory on the opening day of the season, FC Halifax Town who triumphed 3-0 and Torquay United who won 2-0 in Cheshire.

In their last outing they went down 2-0 at Dover Athletic last Saturday to end a run of three unbeaten games.

Last season

Honours finished even last season with Alfreton winning 1-0 in Cheshire on March 15th after Chester ending Alfreton’s ten-game unbeaten run at the Impact Arena with a single-goal victory on October 8th.
