Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has strengthened his squad by bringing in Oldham Athletic left-sided midfield player David Mellor on a month’s loan.
Mellor (21), is a former Manchester United youth player and moved to Oldham as a sixteen-year-old.
He progressed to the Latics youth team and has already made 46 first team appearances scoring once, on his league debut.
Law said: “David is a player I was aware of and moved for him when he became available. I tried to get him last week and couldn’t but it has been worth the wait.
“He will give us extra cover as he can also play left back and he came in and slotted in well on the left, giving us better balance.
“He showed us the quality he has. Yes he needs match sharpness but he knows what it is all about as has played 60 to 70 League One games and hopefully, over the month, he will get better and fitter which will help make us better.”
Oldham exercised their right to take up the option of an extra year on David’s contract which now runs to the end of the 2014/15 season.
A strong player, Mellor can also play in the left-back role and will wear squad number 24 during his stay at the Impact Arena.
