Alfreton Town sign Louie Soares from Grimsby Town

Alfreton Town have brought one player in and released one long-serving member of the squad.

Reds boss Nicky Law has brought in midfielder Louie Soares from Grimsby Town on loan to the end of the season and released long-serving defender Matt Wilson from his contract.

Twenty-eight-year-old Soares (pictured above in Grimsby colours) has been unable to tie down a regular spot in the Mariners` first-team this campaign, and has joined the Reds until April 20th inclusive.

Soares signed for Grimsby on the January deadline day 2012 and has made 15 appearances for the club. He has also spent time out on loan with Ebbsfleet United where he played eight times.

Originally with Reading, Soares had spells with Bristol Rovers and Barnet but is was with Aldershot, who he joined in May 2006, that his career really took off, making 147 appearances and netting seventeen goals. He left the Rec in the summer of 2010 and turned out for Southend and Hayes & Yeading United before joining the Mariners.

His current deal with Grimsby runs out at the end of the season.

Soares will wear squad number eight during his stay but he will not be permitted to play in the away league fixture at Grimsby Town on February 2nd as part of the deal.

Louie is eligible to play in the Derbyshire Senior Cup but not until both the Buxton and Mickleover Royals games have hopefully been successfully completed.

Soares is available for this Saturday’s league game at AFC Telford United.

Meanwhile, Alfreton have released long-serving utility player Matt Wilson from his contract.

Wilson, 25, played a major part in the Reds’ Conference North title success but has found it tough to gain a shirt in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division.

He spent three months on loan at Boston United earlier this season but has suffered with injures which have reduced him to just one substitute appearance in the current campaign.

His total amount of appearances for Alfreton since joining the club in September is 163, 14 of which have been from the bench. He netted ten goals for the club.

The club thank Matt for his efforts whilst at the Impact Arena and wish him every success in the future.
