Alfreton Town look to return to winning ways against Braintree Town

Nicky Law’s side are unbeaten at home this campaign and are currently 6th in the Skrill Premier, with 11 games played.

But the Reds’ away form is less convincing, with their only points on the road coming in a 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town just under a fortnight ago. Alfreton’s trip to Southport on Tuesday night ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat, so Law’s men will be hoping for an improved showing on Saturday.

The Reds are sweating on the fitness of incumbent captain Nick Fenton.

The 33-year-old felt his calf tighten after a blocked challenge in Tuesday night’s game and was replaced by Chris Westwood at centre-half.

Fenton will be assessed before Saturday’s game to see whether he will be fit to play against the Iron. Otherwise, there are no injury worries for Nicky Law.

Alfreton have had mixed success at the Amlin Stadium. In their first season in the Skrill Premier, the Reds recorded a fine 2-1 win over Braintree thanks to a half-volley from Adam Cunnington and Anton Brown’s header. The following year, however, Alfreton were on the wrong side of a 2-1 defeat at Braintree, with the home side taking the lead within 19 seconds and holding on despite Louie Soares’ late strike.

Alan Devonshire’s men have won their last two games and are unbeaten in three. Braintree currently sit 9th in the Skrill Premier after a season consisting of five wins, three draws and three losses. At home the Iron have won and lost in equal measure, beating Woking and Southport but suffering defeats against Kidderminster and Barnet, sides Alfreton have beat this season.
