Most of the first half belonged to Mansfield and they opened the scoring with a penalty by Harry Brough, who followed up with the game’s first try, racing 50 metres after throwing an outrageous dummy.

Determined Moderns hit back with a try of their own, and the score stayed 8-5 to half-time, although man-of-the-match Zane Chiappetta was unlucky to be stopped by a high tackle as he danced through.

In the early stages of the second half, the visitors stormed into a 15-8 lead. But Mansfield won it thanks to a score from Chiappetta, converted by Brough, and then a seven-point penalty try.
