Elliott Clogg smashes own record during British Swimming Championships

Swimming in his home pool at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, Clogg took the touch in 50.78, slicing 0.1 off his previous best from this year’s European Junior Championships in Hungary.

Competing in the Men’s 17/18yrs age group, the 16 year-old Kings Clipstone swimmer had already secured gold to confirm his domestic superiority in the 50m and 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and the 4 x 200m Freestyle relay, before lifting his fifth crown of the Championships with victory in a dramatic 200m Backstroke final.

Touching just 0.06 seconds clear of Millfield School’s Brodie Williams, the pair were evenly matched coming into the Championships with Williams having finished 11th and Clogg 13th at the European Junior Championships.

But while Williams had the advantage at the 50m, 100m & 150m turns, Clogg had enough to dig deep and overhaul the Millfield swimmer in the last 50 coming home in a new lifetime best and new Yorkshire County record of 2:00.41.

Adding to his five gold medals, Clogg also secured three bronzes in the individual 50m Freestyle and as part of the City of Sheffield’s 4 x 100m Freestyle & 4 x 100m Medley relay teams.

Clogg now takes a well-earned break before resuming training for the 2017 season in mid-August.
