Cuckney top table in three-way race for title

They clinched a six-wicket win at Farnsfield with more than eight overs to spare, while the other two challengers played each other.

Leaders Kimberley Institute lost to Cavaliers and Carrington, meaning Cuckney have a three-point advantage at the top.

Cavaliers are second with Kimberley three points further behind.

However, in the penultimate round of matches Cuckney have the toughest task on paper, when they host fourth-placed Plumtree.

If they slip up, Cavaliers, who host lowly Hucknall, or Kimberley, who travel to third-from-bottom Attenborough are likely to pounce.

Against Farnsfield, Cuckney restricted the home side to 197 for eight from their 50 overs.

Farnsfield rcovered well from 15 for two, but were never able to impose themselves on the visiting attack.

Callum McKenzie hit five boundaries in a top-score of 66 as Jack Cattrall, James Hawley and Johnathan Ball all took two wickets.

Curtis Mitchell (37) and Geordge Hadfield (27) added a late half-century stand.

In reply, captain Mark Langford, batting at number four, hit two sixes and 11 fours in a run-a-ball 70.

When he was dismissed, Josh Porter and Daniel Wood completed the run-chase.

They added 56 in an unbroken fifth-wicket partnership — Porter hitting eight fours in 50 not out and Wood 28 not out.
