Taylor hits 291 to put Notts in strong position at Sussex

It was also the highest individual total at Horsham, beating Ian Bell’s 262 not out for Warwickshire 11 years ago.

Taylor and skipper Chris Read put on 365 for the sixth wicket, the fourth highest partnership for any Nottinghamshire wicket, with skipper Read contributing 121 before he was caught behind off Matt Hobden, having faced 221 balls and hit 17 fours and a six.

Taylor finally fell to a superb catch at backward point by Chris Nash to give Steve Magoffin, who took 1-53 from 31.3 overs, belated reward.

Taylor faced 385 balls and hit 39 fours and two sixes.

Notts immediately declared on 570-7 but Sussex openers Luke Wells and Ed Joyce made a positive start to the reply and had reached 53-0 at tea.
