Soggy weekend for the Bassetlaw League programme

League leaders Clipstone enhanced their reputation with a very comprehensive six wicket win over Notts & Arnold Amateur at Goosedale Lane, where the result was never in doubt from the first ball.

Notts & Arnold were dismissed for a paltry 96 runs, with Liaqat Ali helping himself to 4-37, and this score looked well within the capabilities of a strong and confident Clipstone side.

West Indian Justin Braithwaite moved them away to a good start, making a quickfire 34. He was assisted by Craig Brittlebank, who scored an excellent 41, before Ryan Martin added a touch of substance to the Notts & Arnold performance.

Martin just did enough to put the skids temporarily under the Clipstone innings, doing the hat-trick and taking 3-17, but the pathetic Notts & Arnold total was never going to be enough to defend. Clipstone reached 98-4 and victory without any further setbacks. They are looking mighty good and it will take a very competent side to stop them in this sort of form.

Thoresby Colliery looked to be sailing to a huge total as they cruised to 75-0 at North Wheatley. From that moment it went badly wrong as both Martin Cheshire (41) and Faros Aziz (34) were dismissed and the rest of the batting looked as though they had never been to the crease in their lives.

Slow bowler Callus Harrison administered a slow torture to them, taking 8-41, as Thoresby managed just another 49 runs with all 10 wickets falling.

This proved easy for North Wheatley, who have now moved up to second place in the league.

New Zealander Rob McConnachie (31) and Matt Loates, who collared six sixes on his way to 56 not out, saw them to 127-4 and victory by six wickets.

All the other matches were interrupted by rain.

Caythorpe II made 200 all out, with Andrew Satszkiewicz (61) and Oliver Shelvey (64) being the top scorers, while opponents Papplewick & Linby were well served by skipper Jim Rhodes (5-23) and Ross Fitz-John 4-47).

Papplewick had reached 99-2 when rain intervened, with Tony Bettridge looking good at 61 not out.

Matt Sisson was not out with 57 as Farnsfield reached 115- 2 before a premature end to proceedings at Glapwell.

Anston were struggling on 89-5 against Killamarsh, with Antony Roddis (35) top-scoring at Ryton Road, and Worksop weren’t doing particularly well on 124-9 at Stone Close against Kiveton Park. Chris Storey (3-28) and James Gilbert (3-21) were the tormentors-in-chief to Worksop.
