Papplewick slip up and Mansfield Hosiery Mills close the gap to two points ahead of Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship finale

Just two points separate the top two in the Bassetlaw Championship, ahead of this Saturday’s final and deciding game.

Last weekend, Papplewick and Linby were unable to take maximum points, allowing Mansfield Hosiery Mills to take advantage with a win over Clipstone Welfare.

At Fourth Avenue, leaders Papplewick had to settle for a winning draw.

In batting first they posted 270 for 5, but Thoresby replied with 213 for the loss of two wickets, leaving Papplewick with 14 points.

Mansfield Hosiery Mills put Clipstone Welfare in to bat first, and then dismissed them for just 112.

This convincing bowling performance from the second placed team gave them the platform to take the full 20 points, with a reply of 116 for 8.

Glapwell hosted North Wheatley and managed to gather the first batting point before being all out for 149.

Jamie Bovill repeated his four-wicket haul of the previous week, while John Skinner top scored for the home side with 46.

North Wheatley’s Jonny Loates produced a reassuring unbeaten 67, steering his side to a seven wicket victory.

The Wheatley innings totalled 151-3.

Retford visited Anston who batted first.

Amila Perera made 56 for the hosts.

Retford’s Chandra Kumara took 5-24 and Jonathan Redfern supported this with a restricting 3-37.

The home team were all out for 160.

The visitors fell just shy of this target being bowled out for 158.

Edwinstowe batted first on their visit to Kiveton making 152-8 with a top score of 37 from Paul Benson.

Kiveton Park chased the score but as in the game at Anston, fell two runs short.

Back to back wins for Edwinstowe strengthened their position with their fourth victory of the season.

Kiveton Park are left with 167 points, 51 points from safety the position of 10th being held by Worksop.

Worksop are now on 218 following Saturday’s win where a full 20 points were achieved from their visit to Notts and Arnold Amateurs.

Worksop were all out for a match winning 200.

Bernhard Beukman created a solid innings of 71 in a weekend where high scores were limited in the Championship. J

ordan Sergeant took 4-42 for Notts and Arnold.

The pattern of the second side to bat falling short continued at Goosedale Lane as the home team made 184 all out with Worksop winning by 16 runs.

The final Saturday of the Championship season is set up well with nothing yet decided.

The two title contenders are both at home with bottom club Kiveton visiting second placed Hosiery Mills.

Papplewick will play hosts to mid table side Clipstone.
