NPL round-up: Welbeck rock leaders, Ordsall fall to Kimberley, Cuckney crush Attenborough

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, racking up an imposing 291-4 from their 50 overs, a total built on an opening stand of 207 between Simon Widdup, first out for 96, and Matthew Higgins, who made 80.

Andrew Parkin-Coates chipped in with 31 and Mat Dowman managed 3-57 in attempting to stem the tide.

Caythorpe never looked like getting anywhere close in reply, seeing out the 50 overs to total 163-7, only Martyn Dobson’s 75 being a noteworthy score.

Richard Stroh grabbed a couple of early wickets before Parkin-Coates (3-42) and Jonathan Ball applied the brakes, Ball bowling his 15 overs for just 29 runs, including a remarkable 66 dot balls.

Plumtree took full advantage to move nine points clear at the top with a crushing win over the Notts Academy at the PCG.

After winning the toss and batting the home side won’t have been overly pleased to have gone from 190-4 to 232 all out, Sam Storey top-scoring with 68, supported by 59 from Matthew Wood.

Simon Walton and Adam Tillcock both took 3-43 to restrict the home side.

The Academy were never in the hunt, slumping to 97 all out, as Matt Milnes claimed 4-21 with Nathan Rimmington and Graeme White each bagging a brace.

West Indian Cavaliers are now just 10 points behind the leaders after they won at Farnsfield.

After winning the toss and asking their hosts to bat, the Cavs had Farnsfield in early trouble at 60-3. Callum McKenzie’s 32 leading them there.

Sam Wood (44) and James Smith (46) added 72 for the fourth wicket to begin the recovery, but with only Curtis Mitchell making an unbeaten 51 the innings stumbled to a close at 212-9.

Akhil Patel’s 3-60 led the bowlers, backed up by doubles for Corey Collymore and Usman Afzaal. At 33-3 the Cavs chase didn’t get off to the best of starts, but Dominic Williamson’s unbeaten 77 was to be the anchor on which the win was built.

He teamed up with Aaron Thomas (43) to add 81 for the fourth wicket, Rehan Iqbal (35), and in a final 51-run stand with Michael Millwood to win with four overs to spare. Daniel Mather and Andrew Bell each claimed a pair of wickets for Farnsfield.

Kimberley Institute sit fourth, just four points behind the Cavaliers after another strong batting performance secured them the points at Ordsall Bridon.

The home side won the toss and, on choosing to bat, had Sufian Munir (60) get them off to a fast start as the opening stand made 73.

It looked like being another Bridon collapse, though, as the score soon became 119-4.

James Brice made 59 in a 90-run stand with Paul van den Heuvel, who went on to add a further 71 with Aqab Ahmed (49 from 21 balls).

Van den Heuvel finished not out on 67 as Bridon totalled 299-6. Alex King led the bowling with 3-60.

Kimberley were 34-2 when Sam Johnson joined Tom Rowe out in the middle.

By the time Rowe was out, for 59, the pair had added 161 to put the Institute in a strong position. Johnson then added 58 with Dominic Brown, Brown’s contribution 12, before he fell for a superb 143 from just 98 balls.

Brown finished 33 not out as he combined with Dominic Wheatley to get Kimberley to the target with six overs left. Only Asad Ali with 3-72 was able to make any inroads for Bridon.

Clifton Village gained themselves some breathing room at the bottom of the table with a 32-run win over Radcliffe-on-Trent.

They won the toss and batted, piling up 254-9. Adam Shepherd top-scored with 54 not out, Richard Harris and Martin Weightman each made 42, while James Hollingsworth added 32 and Jacob Deavin-Baker claimed three wickets.

Despite 37 from Ben Carr, Radcliffe were in trouble at 86-4. Rob Sutton then made 37 in a partnership of 91 with Jake Fish that had the visitors in position for a win.

But Adam Shepherd then took three wickets in four balls to effectively end the challenge, Fish the last man out for 65 with the score on 222, Shepherd finishing with 5-59, while Weightman and Aitizaz Khan claimed a couple each.

Despite the defeat, Radcliffe gained enough points to leapfrog Attenborough after they were thumped at Cuckney.

Cuckney totalled 324-5, with Trent Lawford bashing 79 from a mere 27 balls.

Luke Thomas top-scored with 90, James Hawley made 56 and Nick Langford 41 not out from 18 balls.

Attenborough never had a reply, subsiding to 124 all out, with only Gurpej Landa’s 53 providing resistance. Ian Parkin claimed 5-33 with Lawford’s day completed by taking 3-26.

At Langwith Road: CUCKNEY (20) 324-5 (L. Thomas 90, T. Lawford 79, J. Hawley 56, N. Langford 41) beat ATTENBOROUGH (2) 124 (G. Landa 53; T. Lawford 3-26, I. Parkin 5-33) by 200 runs.

At Station Lane: FARNSFIELD (5) 212-9 (C. Mitchell 51*, J. Smith 46, S. Wood 44; A. Patel 3-60) lost to WEST INDIAN CAVALIERS (20) 213-6 (D. Williamson 77*, A. Thomas 43) by four wickets.
