NPL round-up: Kimberley champions, Ordsall Bridon escape drop, Farnsfield and Attenborough relegated

Kimberley secured the title, despite a comprehensive 64-run defeat at Clifton Village.

The home side were put in to bat and with Richard Harrison (32) and Aitizaz Khan blasting 70 from 55 balls in a 109-run partnership, found themselves 111-1.

However, ‘Nelson’ would strike and have lasting consequences.

Only Adam Shepherd (39) providing much further resistance as Clifton lost nine wickets for 66 to finish 177 all out.

When George Bacon (6-49) bowled Alastair Walters he secured the bonus point that clinched the title. Christopher Glover chipped in with 3-32.

Kimberley appeared to have too much celebratory champagne at tea as their batting just didn’t fire, Martin Weightman with 4-29 and Khan with 3-33 bowling them out for 113.

At the other end of the table, Ordsall Bridon were able to secure their status as an NPL club for next season, despite themselves.

They travelled to Cuckney, where upon being asked to bat first, they were blown away inside 27 overs for just 54.

Trent Lawford took 3-27 and Lewis Bramley 6-24 as they bowled unchanged. Bramley’s haul included a hat-trick.

Cuckney completed the formalities in the 13th over for the loss of one wicket.

As a result of Ordsall’s pointless outing, Farnsfield had a chance to take the relegation battle into the final round of fixtures.

Alas, they went out, not with a bang, but a whimper.

Playing host to Plumtree, who chose to bat first, Farnsfield saw the openers put on 65, with Hassan Azad hitting 30.

From there, the home side chipped away with regular wickets, as Plumtree fell away to 168 all out, Sam Wood taking 4-43 and Daniel Mather 3-57.

Glen Read was to destroy any lingering Farnsfield hopes, however, claiming 6-20 as the hosts slumped to 48 all out in the 22nd over.

Attenborough went in to their match at the West Indian Cavaliers knowing it would have taken a miracle for them to remain in the league.

They were put in to bat at Birchover Park, their total of 141 all out owing much to Alec McKinley’s 35 and 32 from Saad Ashraf.

Mousin Qayyum was their tormentor-in-chief, taking 6-52.

Despite sliding to 21-3, Cavs enjoyed a relative stroll to victory, Usman Afzaal making 40 and Bilal Shafayat an unbeaten 52 to steer his side home.

There were also wins for Welbeck and Caythorpe. Welbeck beating Radcliffe-on-Trent after they bowled their hosts out for 161.

Radcliffe had been 80-1 as Ross Carnelley made 44 and Ben Carr 40, but the innings petered out with Simon Widdup taking 6-34, backed by 3-47 from Jonathan Ball.

The run chase was relatively drama-free as Andrew Parkin-Coates (42), Widdup (34) and Richard Stroh (32 not out) carried them to a six-wicket win with almost 14 overs in hand, Jacob Deavin-Baker’s 3-36 not proving enough.

Caythorpe secured a 28-run win over the Notts Academy at Caythorpe.

Oliver Clarke’s maiden half century, a score of 70, supported by James Oldham (35), led the home side to 188-9.

Returning from paternity leave, Caythorpe skipper James Hemmings celebrated with 6-40 as the Academy were reduced to 78-7, before Paul Franks’ 34 led a late tail wag.

At Caythorpe: CAYTHORPE (20) 188-9 (O. Clarke 70) beat NOTTS ACADEMY (5) 160 (J. Hemmings 6-4) by 28 runs.

At Clifton: CLIFTON (20) 177 (J. Hemmings 64; G. Bacon 6-49, C. Glover 3-32) beat KIMBERLEY INSTITUTE (4) 113 (J. Hemmings 3-33, M. Weightman 4-29) by 64 runs

At Langwith Road: ORDSALL BRIDON (0) 54 (L. Bramley 6-24, T. Lawford 3-27) lost to CUCKNEY (20) 58-1 by nine wickets.

At Station Lane: PLUMTREE (20) 168 (S. Wood 4-43, D. Mather 3-57) beat FARNSFIELD (4) 48 (G. Read 6-20) by 120 runs.

At Radcliffe: RADCLIFFE-ON-TRENT (2) 161 (R. Carnelley 44; S. Widdup 6-34, Jonathan Ball 3-47) lost to WELBECK (20) 163-4 (A. Parkin-Coates 42; J. Deavin-Baker 3-36) by six wickets.

At Birchover Park: ATTENBOROUGH (2) 141 (M. Qayyum 6-52) lost to WEST INDIAN CAVALIERS (20) 145-4 (B. Shafayat 52*, U. Afzaal 40) by six wickets.
