Notts Premier League: Good day for Kimberley, Ordsall win strugglers’ clash, Cuckney held in derby

Firstly they took care of their own business, stretching their unbeaten run to 10 matches with a six wicket victory over Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Kimberley’s day then improved with the news from Plumtree, where the home side fell to a five wicket defeat courtesy of Welbeck.

On winning the toss, Kimberley had their visitors bat first, and took wickets in bunches.

Rob Sutton’s 71 was the only score over 21 as Ben Savage grabbed 3-22 from his 15 overs, assisted by Alex King’s 3-58 as Radcliffe were dismissed for 192.

Tom Rowe dominated the run chase for Kimberley, first adding 60 with Shaun Levy in a second wicket stand, before completing the chase with an unbroken 53-run stand with George Bacon. Rowe finished 93 not out as Kimberley passed their target with 10 overs to spare.

Against Welbeck, Plumtree chose to bat first, but found themselves 40-4 as Tom Lungley got himself 3-34.

Nathan Rimmington’s 51 hinted at a recovery, but Andrew Parkin-Coates mopped up the tail with figures of 3-11 as Plumtree were bowled out for 151.

Parkin-Coates opened up the reply with Simon Widdup, and the pair broke the back of the required total, adding 86 before Parkin-Coates fell for 57. Despite the loss of four further wickets, Widdup hung around for an unbeaten 46 to clinch victory with 10 overs left.

Kimberley’s good day was completed by the result at Lady Bay where the Notts Academy surprised West Indian Cavaliers.

The visitors were invited to bat first and found themselves in trouble at 29-4. Usman Afzaal’s 47 was the main feature in a stand of 68 with Dominic Williamson, but with Simon Webster, Ben Kitt and Connor Marshall all taking three wickets, Cavs folded to 132 all out.

The Academy reply looked to be in tatters at 9-4, Corey Collymore and Kafeel Shafique each grabbing a brace, but Tom Keast (58) and Adam Tillcock (53 not out) put on 116 for the fifth wicket an victory was secured in the 43rd over.

Caythorpe took full advantage of these slip ups to climb back into second in the table, as they overcame the challenge of 10-man Clifton Village.

With injuries and unavailability leaving them one short, the Villagers chose to bat first.

Martin Weightman (33) and Scott McNeill putting on 93 for the third wicket to set up a run at a testing total.

McNeill was the bedrock of the innings, batting through to the penultimate over for a chanceless 129 before a tired shot saw him bowled. Clifton’s innings closing on 261-7.

Caythorpe’s reply was a team affair. Stand-in skipper, Martyn Dobson added 68 for the first wicket with James Oldham (40).

Josh Mierkalns then made 36 in a stand of 57 with Mat Dowman.

Dowman went on to make 55, Oliver Clarke first lending Dowman support, then featuring in a stand of 52 with Caleb Mierkalns. Clarke finished unbeaten on 40, Caythorpe reaching the target with 11 balls in hand.

Cuckney’s total of 220-7 against Farnsfield owed much to a 94 run second wicket stand between James Hawley (39) and Adam Burgess.

Burgess would go on to make 79, while figures of 3-66 from David Loveridge helped hold the Cuckney score in check.

Farnsfield, in reply, made a slow start, before a fourth wicket partnership worth 57 between Andrew Bell (44) and Jamie Smith got them back on track.

Smith, who would finish not out on 60, added a further 54 for the sixth wicket with Routledge, but the innings would close on 175-8, Trent Lawford’s 3-44 helping to stem the tide.

The bottom two went head to head at Ordsall Bridon, where Attenborough chose to bat first, soon finding themselves 41-4 and 88-5.

Alec McKinlay marshalled the tail on his way to 85, and with the assistance of 45 extras got Attenborough to a total of 246-9.

Aqab Ahmed took the bowling honours, claiming 5-60.

Bridon’s opening pair of Sufian Munir and Martyn Long set off on a mission.

Their partnership was worth 142 when Munir was first out, for 81.

Long made 61 before becoming Stanny Simon’s first victim.

Simon would grab five more, finishing with 6-61, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Ordsall from getting home with 27 balls still available.
