Mullaney keen to stretch Outlaws' unbeaten run at Welbeck

Captain Steven Mullaney hopes his Nottinghamshire Outlaws side can continue their 100 per cent winning record in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Mansfield's Welbeck ground this month.

In three previous completed matches at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex, the Outlaws have beaten Warwickshire in 2015, Derbyshire in 2016 and Leicestershire last year. Now they face Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Sunday, May 20.

Mullaney, who made 50 from 44 balls in the match against the Foxes, said: “We have a great record at Welbeck, which we pride ourselves on, and we want to keep it going.

“We want to stay unbeaten on a ground we enjoy playing at, and if we play well against Northants, we believe we can do it.

“As much as we love playing at Trent Bridge, it’s also great to play at different grounds and take matches to another part of the county.

“People can sit right next to the field, so it feels intimate and brings with it a really good atmosphere.

“We normally get a decent crowd in and hopefully we can get another win for those who come along.”

After missing last year’s game because he was on England duty, Jake Ball is set to return to play at his former club, fitness permitting.

Mullaney said: “Jake is obviously a favourite at Welbeck and they are rightfully proud of what he has achieved over the last few years. Having missed out last year, he will want to show what he can do.”
