Mick Newell is Bassetlaw Umpires’ guest

Nottinghamshire director of cricket, Mick Newell is the Bassetlaw Umpires’ Association guest at the next meeting on Saturday, 1st February.

Mick was educated at West Bridgford Comprehensive School and represented Nottinghamshire between 1984 and 1992.

He was awarded his county cap in 1987 and was awarded a benefit in 1999.

His finest season was in 1987 when he scored 1,054 first class runs at an average of 39.03 and his highest score was an unbeaten 203 against Derbyshire in the same season.

In 1992 he became second XI manager and captain and moved on to become first XI coach in 2002. He led Nottinghamshire to the County Championship in 2005 and 2010 and the Second Division title in 2004.

His latest honour was in leading Notts to the YB Pro 40 cup in 2013.
