Mansfield League ready for new season

The Mansfield and District Cricket League is ready for the new season, running with 78 teams.

There will be the usual eight sections mainly with 10 teams per section but the top and bottom sections will only have nine teams each.

The League will operate from Sunday, 12th April until Sunday, 13th September inclusive.

New clubs include Bawtry, Hundall, Sheffield United and Woodsetts, with Woodsetts playing at Edwinstowe.

Holmewood and Ordsall Bridon have been successful in re-applying to join in 2015.

Kingsway Park have changed their name to Pheasant Hill and Mansfield II have changed their name to Mansfield Academy, both these teams sharing the Queen Elizabeth ground in Mansfield.

The League have lost Calow, Clay Cross, Edwinstowe and Sherwood II in the close season. However, Edwinstowe II remain in section Six.

The League are still on the lookout for more umpires and scorers on Sundays - anyone interested in umpiring should contact Mr G. Kerry on 01246 865390.

An umpires’ refresher course has been held at the Red Brick House, free to all umpires and players, and the Association were pleased to see the numbers attending were up on last year.

The League is running free scorers’ courses throughout the district to encourage extra scorers to take up the job.

At the annual general meeting all existing officers and committee members were re-elected and clubs were offered financial incentives for finding new persons to umpire and further financial incentives if their club finished the season with no disciplinary problems or fines.

The annual dinner presentation evening was held during the winter at the league’s headquarters at Red Brick House, Mansfield Woodhouse, with all the League meetings, umpire’s courses and their meetings being held there.
