After winning the toss, the visitors scored 77 for 1 from 32 overs on a good pitch at lunch for the loss of Paul Horton.

Derbyshire’s bowlers did well on a hot morning to contain Leicestershire who scored only 37 from the first 16 overs before Tony Palladino found enough movement to have Horton caught behind for 20 from 40 balls.

Harry Dearden took consecutive fours off former Leicestershire all-rounder Shiv Thakor but the fact he needed 117 balls for his 35 was a reflection of how tightly Derbyshire bowled.
