Kirkby teen set for cricket's world stage

A Kirkby teenager is preparing to get padded up for the international cricket stage - and needs your help!

Eloise della-Spina has been selected to represent England in the Under-17 Woman’s Action Cricket World Series in New Zealand in September.

The 14-year-old plays for Nottinghamshire Country Cricket Club’s girls under-15s and will be the latest from the area to represent her country.

Among those who have a connection to the area and played county cricket are Nottinghamshire and England greats Harold Larwood and Bill Voce.

Eloise also plays for Kirkby Portland Cricket Club and represents her local area all over the county. This club has the proud tradition of producing cricketers like Larwood, who once played on Kirkby’s cricket square.

Her dad Robert della-Spina said: “Kirkby Portland has been an amazingly supportive club, with coaches that have helped Eloise develop. She has also worked very closely with Paul Pollard, an ex-Nottinghamshire player.”

The expense of competing at the Under-17 Woman’s Action Cricket World Series falls on the players and their families as the event is not funded.

“It is to this end we would like support in helping to raise the target amount for the travel and the accommodation costs of £3,465,” added Robert.

“We realise this is a large sum of money and would welcome any contribution to the overall costs no matter how small. Personally, I feel it would be amazing to see a local girl represent her country supported by her own community.”
