Kimberley see unbeaten run end at 19 wins after Hucknall defeat

At the 20th time of asking this summer, Kimberley Institute have finally seen their incredible 100 per cent record in the Nottinghamshire Premier League come to an end.

A 26-run defeat at third-placed Hucknall means the new champions won’t be able to pull off what many would see as impossible and go through a whole league season undefeated.

But with the title already won, the end of the run is unlikely to take any shine off what has been a stunning summer for Kimberley.

After winning the toss and bowling first, Kimberley looked to have the home side under control as Aatish Kean Maharaj (4-42) restricted them to 112-5, with only opener Daniel Blatherwick (32) getting going.

But Hucknall skipper Sam Johnson (46) led a fightback, supported by Archie Moore (48) to get them to 201-8 in their 50 overs.

Kimberley would still have been confident of chasing down their target but instead suffered a rare off-day with the bat in the face of excellent bowling from Oliver Horlock (4-38) and Blatherwick (3-28).

Harrison Parker (21), Kieran Walker (24), Martin Weightmann (30) and Harry Ratcliffe (24) all got starts, but no-one could go on as Kimberley were bowled out for 174 in 34.2 overs.

Other results: Attenborough 120 all out, lost to Papplewick & Linby 121-2 (J Walker 58no), by eight wickets; Cavaliers & Carrington 273-5 (Perera 81, Patel 71, Brown 51), beat Mansfield Hosiery Mills 243-6 (Smallwood 70), by 30 runs; Collingham & District 159 all out (Bridgens 53, Wright 6-33), beat Caythorpe 73 all out (Luckett 5-26), by 86 runs; Cuckney 225-8 (Rowe 59), beat Clipstone 211 (Chauhan 83) by 14 runs; Notts Arnold & Amateur 64-2, beat Wollaton 60 all out, by eight wickets.
