Hosiery Mills win ban appeal

Mansfield Hosiery Mills have won their appeal against automatic relegation from the Notts Premier Cricket League and a three-year ban for an alleged breach of rules on payments.

Premier League rules state that clubs can pay no more than two professional players and action was taken against Hosiery Mills and a player after it was ruled that the club had made payments to a player registered as an amateur.

However, the club lodged an appeal which was upheld at a hearing at the end of last week by the panel ‘because of a technical matter relating to the original hearing’.

Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Premier League chairman Peter Johnson continued: “As such MHMCC are reinstated for the 2014 season, and Farnsfield, by virtue of having finished 11th in the league, are relegated.

“A further statement on this matter will be made following the management committee meeting. At that meeting the league fixtures will also be approved.”
