Young wicketkeeper Harvey Hosein says he is determined to become a regular in Derbyshire CCC’s first team after his record-breaking debut.

The Chesterfield-born youngster claimed 11 catches against Surrey at The Oval at the end of last season to break the Derbyshire record for the most dismissals in a match by a wicketkeeper.

At only 18 years of age, Hosein also equalled the world record for dismissals by a wicketkeeper on a first-class debut.

But for the modest teen, establishing himself in the county’s first eleven is the priority over breaking any more records.

Said Hosein: “I got the call at the end of the season and it was great to be involved in the first team environment.

“I’m still young and it was exciting to be a part of things, playing for Derbyshire is what I have always wanted to do.

“This is my first full winter training with the first team and it has been very enjoyable.

“I am not setting myself any targets, I just want to play the best I can and to establish myself.

“Playing in the last two games of the season allowed me to express myself and play with freedom.

“My debut at Surrey was all rather surreal, I always say it was the bowlers who did all the hard that day and I just took the catches.”

And Hosein, who also has 17 runs to his name, believes that an excellent team spirit will help Derbyshire achieve their ultimate aim of promotion back to Division One.

“We are all really close and are friends off the pitch,” he added.

“We take that unity on to the pitch and are always working for each other. We have all got trust in everyone.

“We want to get promoted this year and are working very hard to get back to Division One.

“Our pre-season has gone well so far with a successful trip to Abu Dhabi and it was great to play against fellow county sides. We are all excited to get started.”
