Glapwell’s season fading into disappointment - Bassetlaw League round-up

They batted quite well in their home match with Clipstone before being all out for 225.

Danny Bircumshaw and Andrew Stewart both made 69 while Lewis Sprigg (4-58) and Ian Woodall (3-49) were the best of the Clipstone attack.

The cavalier strokeplay of Matt Millns, however, was the deciding factor as he blasted his way to 82 excellent runs.

Josh Flower was unbeaten on 46 as Clipstone reached 229-6 and a four wicket win.

What a strange combination Thoresby Colliery are. At their best they are very good, but when they are struggling they can look simply awful.

They were in this mode as Harthill thrashed them by a massive 130 runs at Thorpe Road.

Batting first Harthill piled up a huge 249-8 with Dinal Fonseka (47), Ian Briggs (40), Kevin Cooper (45), Rob Jones (35) and James Radford (31) all made significant contributions. Aquib Farooq, with 5-72, was the only Thoresby bowler to shine.

Thoresby’s reply looked good as Martin Cheshire (37) and Farooq Aziz (44) made a fine opening stand, but once this pair had been parted it was quickly over as the rest were bundled out for a paltry 119. James Radford added to his batting contribution, taking 4-44 as Harthill pulled off an excellent win.

There were runs galore at Retford as the home side piled up 258-6 against Cuckney II.

Mark Bull made an impressive 98 and Pascal Broadley reached 62 as runs came freely.

Chris Bowers (33) added to the total as Cuckney struggled to compete.

Howeve, it was the wicket which proved excellent and Cuckney had little problem in amassing 222-7 without ever quite keeping up with the required rate.

Andrew Stephenson (47), Matt Walker (42) and David France (30) all batted well in an excellent effort which saw Retford claim the lion’s share of the points.

Ordsall Bridon now look clear favourites after a comfortable win over Anston at Ryton Road by 76 runs. It will be Bridon’s first title win since 1988 and there is no doubt that they have been a powerful force all season.

Batting first on a wicket that was made for scoring runs on, Bridon were indebted to David Fagan who slaughtered the Anston attack for a brilliant 138 and with excellent support from Paul Van den Heuval (54) they managed a massive 288 for 9 before the 50 overs had elapsed. As always Amila Perera was the main problem to them and he took 5 for 77 to keep his side in the game.

The reply was excellent also as Anston tried to stay in the match before being finally bowled out for 212. That man Perera once again showed what a fine player he is by top scoring with 59 and John Lyne added 38 but for once the rest of the batting wasn’t up to its usual mark.

Tim Miles added to his ever increasing number of wickets by taking 4 for 59 and Darren Spooner weighed in with 3 for 54 as Bridon surely saw off the last challenge they will get this season.

Worksop claimed an impressive 114 run win over Notts & Arnold Amateur, who have been in fine form recently.

Batting first Worksop made 255-5 with young Tim Smith again showing his enormous potential with 49. Bernhard Beukman added 62 and Luke Ambrose made 44 as Notts & Arnold struggled to keep the score down.

Although Connor Brindley (59) scored well the other Notts & Arnold ‘big guns’ failed to fire for once and Wayne Spooner (3 for 40) and Dave Hancocks (5 for 35) bowled them out for just 141 to give Worksop a comfortable win.

North Wheatley with Leverton racked up a massive 289-5 against Kiveton Park with Will Shaw (75), Richard Robinson (74), Jamie Sizer (46 n.o.) and Dwight Thomas (33) all batting well.

Gary Andrews (3 for 90) was the best of the Kiveton attack which struggled very badly to contain.

In reply, Kiveton were bowled out for 217, but that is only half of the story.

Once again it was the flashing blade of Adam Whiteley who scored a fabulous 127 and had he received any sort of support Kiveton may well have won.

As it was Jamie Bovill turned back the years with a superb spell to take 6-64 with Callum Harrison also bagging three wickets for just 31 runs.
