The donation is from the Coalfields Community Investment Programme, delivered by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust which is the only organisation dedicated to providing support for former mining communities.

The funds were awarded to the club to contribute towards the cost of extra-long mobile and light wicket covers that can make maintaining the pitches more manageable and will prevent the ground from becoming spoiled during wet weather.

Glapwell chairman Phil Matthews said: “We have three adult teams and one junior team that plays and practices at the club on a regular basis, so we have to ensure that the pitches are fully maintained and can be used season after season.

“These wicket covers will not only keep the playing field dry but they will also prevent us from having to abandon games due to the effects of bad weather.

“This means that more adults and children can make use of our facilities, whether that is playing on the pitches or by coming together as a community to show their support for our teams.”
