Derbyshire CCC captain Wayne Madsen wants side to get off to fast start

Derbyshire won five of their last six Championship games last season to seal a fourth place finish in the LV= County Championship Division Two

And Madsen believes his ambitious side can use that momentum as a springboard to seal promotion back to the big-time.

“It is important that we get off to a fast start,” said the South African born player.

Worcestershire proved the value of a good start last season and we need to do the same.

“Something just clicked for us in June as the younger players came in to the squad and we went on a run. That run has given us a lot of momentum and confidence.

“We have a young squad and they are building in confidence and experience. I also think that players are taking moree individual responsibility and that is a key part of the improved results.

“Confidence plays a big part in sport and we have got plenty of confidence in the squad.”

Derbyshire last won the Division Two title in 2012 before they relegated a year later.

And Madsen believes his side has what it takes to follow in the foosteps of the class of 2012.

“We are playing good cricket at the moment and have had a good pre-season,” added Madsen.

“As a team we have been training very hard in the winter and we cannot wait to get started.

“It is key that we carry on where we left off last season. We have got what it takes in this squad to do that

Derbyshire start their Championship campaign against Lancashire on the 19th April.
