Cuckney return to top of the NPL table

The latest round of fixtures in the Premier League Dan Sutton Trophy took place on a cool Bank Holiday Monday and left very little decided in the North Group.

Cuckney moved back to the top of the group with a thumping win at The New Gatehouse Ground over Hucknall.

After choosing to bat, the visitors suffered an early loss but righted the ship with a 79-run stand between Nick Keast (32) and James Hawley as 80 for 1 quickly became 97 for 4 and it needed Tom Ullyott to stick with Hawley and rebuild the innings.

The pair added 73 together before Hawley perished for 70, Ullyott carrying to hit 75 from 58 balls. Cuckney closed on 242 for 8 despite the efforts of Sam Wood who took 4 for 38.

With George Buckthorpe (43) and Hassan Chaudry (36) at the crease putting on a stand of 90, the chase was on for Hucknall, however 95 for 1 become 124 all out as Richard Bostock (3 for 15) and James Hawley, 5 for 11 from 4.2 overs, ripped out the Hucknall batting.

Kimberley Institute went into Monday's match with Papplewick & Linby top of the group and knowing a win would clinch a semi-final slot.

The visitors chose to bat first and, led by 47 as Ben Trevor-Jones compiled a steady 162 for 8.

Kimberley’s reply was a similar story, plenty of double figure scores but only Martin Weightman (42) pushing on beyond 20.

All six Papplewick bowlers claimed a wicket with Pete Bhabra (3 for 23) the pick as Kimberley were dismissed for 147.

Mansfield came out on the wrong side of a low scoring game at Caythorpe.
