Cuckney extend lead after Rolls slip - NPL weekend round-up

Cuckney have extended their lead at the top of the Notts Premier League table to 19 points after Rolls Royce slipped to an unexpected defeat at Welbeck.

Cuckney made light work of securing a win at Langwith Road, consigning Papplewick to their 10th defeat of the season.

The visitors were dismissed for 172 in the 43rd over, thanks to spinner Ian Parkin taking 5-33 and Luke Thomas 3-31, with only Mark Nelson (48) and Ross Fitz-John (33) making any headway with the bat.

The leaders strolled to a six-wicket win in just 27 overs with Neville Talbot (62*) and Will Butler (39*) seeing them home after Tom Ullyott (31) started the response.

Rolls Royce went down by 39 runs at home to Welbeck, a result that sees them slip to third in the table and dent their championship hopes.

The visitors posted 209-7 in the first innings with Martyn Dobson starring with 105 from 135 balls with only Jon Ball (31) adding significant runs and Liam Andrews bagging figures of 4-50.

Rolls’ stellar line-up would have viewed their target with some anticipation, but they were skittled for 170 in the penultimate over with Andrews concluding a good day personally with 66 not out and Adam Shepherd adding 35.

Jake Ball (3-42) and Rob French (4-42) led the Welbeck attack and this result sees Welbeck climb to eighth spot, 16 points ahead of the relegation zone.

West Indian Cavaliers took the opportunity to climb in second spot, just 19 points below the leaders after they strode to a huge 166 run victory over Plumtree, a side who beat them earlier in the year. Plumtree opted to field first but Usman Afzaal declared the innings closed after 48 overs when the home team had reached 252-5.

Akhil Patel (50), Bilal Shafayat (45), Sadiq Hassan (42) and Aaron Thomas (39) all contributed well with Ben Thompson taking 3-71 for the visitors.

Ameer Ahmed (4-24) and Aatif Ali (3-41) effectively ended the contest when they reduced Plumtree to 23-6. Matt Milnes (32*) added some respectability before they were dismissed for 86 with Ata-ur Rehman finishing off the innings with 3-6.

At the bottom of the table, Farnsfield took a great stride towards survival when they beat Kimberley by two wickets at the 2BM ground.

The home side were dismissed in exactly 50 over for 218 with Bharat Popli continuing his recent good form with 58, with Paldip Sidhu chipping in with 32 with Dave Loveridge leading the Farnsfield attack with a return of 4-44.

The visitors reached their target with three full overs to spare, but not before they had lost eight wickets.

Matthew Sisson (36), Callum McKenzie (37) and Paul Franks (46) all contributed to the winning effort before Graeme White (45*) saw them over the line, despite Chris Glover taking 3-69 and Alex King 4-38.

The win sees Farnsfield remain in 11th, but there is now only six points to the 10th placed team Clifton who secured only four points after going down by seven wickets away at Mansfield Hosiery Mills.

The visitors closed on 204-8 after Martin Weightman scored 77, supported by Richard Harris (30). Matt Wright continued his good form with figures of 5-64.

Gareth Curtis hit 62 and Tom New 69 not out as the Millers reached their target for the loss of three wickets in the 47th over.

The final game was abandoned after less than 14 overs of the second innings as the rain curtailed proceedings in Caythorp,e who were hosting the Nottinghamshire Academy.

The visitors were all out for 250 from the final ball of their 50 overs with Sam Wood hitting 55, supported by Adam Tillcock (43), Andrew Parkin-Coates (40) and Sam Kelsall (34) with Jim Hindson (3-65) and Matt Dowman (3-43) leading the home bowlers.

Caythorpe reached 31-1 in their reply before the weather ended the contest.
