CRICKET: New contracts for Derbyshire Academy pair Davis and Hemmings

Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduates Will Davis and Rob Hemmings have signed incremental contracts for the 2016 season.

Davis, who represented England under-19s last winter, made his first-class debut for the county in the tour match versus Australia in July and impressed as he claimed figures of 3-63 in the first innings.

The 19-year-old fast bowler was also a regular in the Second XI this summer, claiming 15 wickets at an average of 27 and featuring in Derbyshire’s successful One-Day Trophy campaign.

All-rounder Hemmings, who graduated from the Academy in 2015, has signed his first deal with the county after the 19-year-old performed well for the Second XI and in training with the first team.

Elite Performance director, Graeme Welch said: “Will and Rob are promising young lads who have both impressed when they’ve been around the first team this summer.

“Will made his debut in July and performed very well against an experienced international side. He and Rob will now both benefit greatly from training and working full time with the first team as they continue their development.

“We have seen a number of young lads break into the first team over the last couple of years and we hope Will and Rob are among the next crop who can emerge and contribute to winning games for Derbyshire.”
