Charlotte Horton named Derbyshire women's captain

Darley Dale Cricket Club's Charlotte Horton has been appointed as the captain of the Derbyshire women's cricket team for the 2016 season.

Charlotte has a fine record as an all-rounder in club cricket in the UK and Australia and also in county cricket.

This will be Charlotte’s 12th season playing for Derbyshire.

Charlotte said: “iIt is a great honour to captain Derbyshire and we are looking forward to a successful 2016 season.

“The women’s game is gaining popularity rapidly with the success of the England Women’s team and I hope this and our progress will encourage more girls and women to take up cricket.”

In the 2015 season Charlotte played 13 games for Derbyshire, scoring 498 runs at an excellent average of 45.

The highlights were a thrilling century against Holland and 99 not out against Hertfordshire.

Derbyshire will be competing in Division Three of the one–day Royal London Competition and Division Three of the T20 league.

This year will also see the women’s game being played in coloured clothing, across all formats and adopting the use of the high visibility pink ball.

Vice-Captain is Rachel Hopkins, of Sawley and Long Eaton cricket club, and coach is Richard Wood from Marehay cricket club.
