This new three-year deal will keep him with Nottinghamshire until the end of the 2016 season.

“It’s been a massive year for me. It started with winning The Ashes, and ended with bringing home the Yorkshire Bank 40 trophy to Nottingham,” said Broad.

“I’m really looking forward to the next three years, and bringing more success to Trent Bridge.”

Broad has taken 78 wickets for Nottinghamshire since arriving in 2008, including 8-52 against Warwickshire in 2010. International appearances restricted Broad to three matches for the county in 2013 in which he took 15 wickets, including eight against Derbyshire in April.

“Stuart is an excellent player and asset to this club,” said Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket.

“To have someone of his quality available to us at certain points in the season gives us an extra edge, and he was influential in securing the Yorkshire Bank 40 trophy for us at Lord’s.”

Broad is centrally contracted by the ECB but the terms of his deal will come into force should he lose his position in the England setup.
