Bassetlaw League: Hosiery Mills hot on Papplewick’s heels

Mills won at Notts & Arnold Amateur on Saturday to close the gap on Papplewick, who were beaten by 45 runs at Kiveton Park.

Goosedale Lane was the scene for Mills’ success as Notts and Arnold batted first, achieving a solid 220-7.

Dilhan Cooray top-scored for the home team with a sterling 54 and Vinay Landa fell just one short of his half-century.

Samuel Ecob, who is often among the runs, scored 32, while Matt New was the pick of the visiting bowlers with 3-72.

He was able to extend this form with his innings of 45. But Kamal Manek led the scoring for the visitors’ reply with 73.

Mark Smallwood also provided 31 of the 221 runs needed for victory which was achieved for the loss of only four wickets.

Kiveton Park batted first at Stone Close. Their highest score came from Tom Haslam, who fired 66 in their innings of 179-8.

The bowling of Shaharyar Aslam (3-32) and Charlie Blatherwick (4-46) was significant for Papplewick and Linby in keeping the total below 200.

But Papplewick’s reply ended up 45 runs short as the Ari Karvelas’ 5-44 proved to be a major contribution in Papplewick being bowled out.

The match at Ryton Road saw the fall of a full 20 wickets, but Anston were the clear winners.

Amassing 217 runs they took maximum points with their visitors falling for 93.

Edwinstowe gained four bowling points in their 124-run defeat.
Thoresby were another victorious home team with an opening innings of 238-8.

Glapwell were bowled out for 130 after the tea interval with Thoresby taking a full 20 points from a 108-run win.
Worksop hosted an in-form Retford team and were unable to halt their charge.

Once again the host team batted first, building a total of 181-7 with half-centuries from Bernhardt Beukman (51) and Luke Ambrose (52).

The Retford reply boasted two half-centuries also with Chandra Kumara and Mark Bull both finishing not out for 83 and 64 respectively as they ended up 184-1 to win by nine wickets.

The only draw in Saturday’s Championship games took place at Seventh Avenue.

Clipstone batted first, making 271-7 with a superb 104 from Lee Wilson.

The century maker’s total was well supported by Jayaneththi Koralalage’s 40 and Craig Brittlebank’s 61 not out as the limit of overs was reached.

Clipstone took 17 points from the game as North Wheatley with Leverton made 224-7 in their overs, taking nine points.
