Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship round-up: New leaders after title clash

Mansfield Hosiery Mills found themselves leapfrogged on Saturday in the Bassetlaw Championship, losing top spot to opponents Papplewick and Linby.

The losing draw meant Hosiery Mills slipped back into second place.

Papplewick chose to bat first, building a substantial 278-7 with 87 from Alex Lloyd and 93 from Shaharyar Aslam.

Matt Wright (3-45) and Kunal Manek (3-36) bowled well to restrict Papplewick.

In reply Mansfield Hosiery Mills achieved full batting points, scoring 214-6 with Tom New and Mark Smallwood sharing a 143-run partnership.

Mills were at one stage 21-2, before an unbeaten 34 from James Fenwick enhanced the innings.

In the match at Fourth Avenue, Thoresby batted the allotted overs. but were restricted by Amila Perea (3-42).

Thoresby’s highest run scorer Tebogo Mokwena scored another century, his third of the season as he achieved 102.

He was the rock of the Thoresby innings as they scored 180 all out.

In reply the good batting conditions were exposed as Anston scored the runs required with little trouble, Luke Hall and Perera sharing a match wining 123-run partnership, scoring 61, and 63 respectively, for a seven wicket victory.

North Wheatley with Leverton continued their fine form taking 20 points against bottom club Edwinstowe.

This fixture started with North Wheatley with Leverton being invited to bat first.

A run fest followed for North Wheatley with Leverton with Jonny Loates continuing his good form with 126, his fifth hundred of the season.

Richard Robinson made 43 with Chris Dobson the only Edwinstowe bowler to take three wickets as they successfully bowled North Wheatley with Leverton out for 262.

In reply Edwinstowe struggled to 141 all out due to fine spells of bowling from Callum Harrison and Jamie Bovill who took six wickets between them.

At Seventh Avenue over 500 runs were scored.

Notts and Armold Amateurs’ star was Dilhan Cooray who made an unbeaten 86, but Ian Woodall’s (5-68) kept them in check for Clipstone.

Clipstone won by five wickets as Lee Wilson made 138 runs.

The game at Park Avenue was one of two evenly matched mid table teams in Glapwell and Worksop.

The result was another loss for out of form Worksop, as Glapwell chose to bat first and made 213-8, taking full batting points.

Stephen Gooding’s 71 was significant for Glapwell.

All-rounder Bernhard Beukman continued his fine personal form, this time with the ball taking a five wicket haul to hamper the Glapwell batsman after being 125-3 before losing the next seven for 88 runs.

In reply Worksop never really looked like getting the necessary runs, and were all out for 118 without a batsman making 19 or more.

This was due to the fine bowling form Daniel Weaver (4-19).

In the match at Stone Close between Kiveton and Retford, Kiveton Park made 222-9, taking full batting points, while Retford took four bowling points.

In reply, Retford made 180-8 achieving a losing draw and taking nine points after the full 100 overs, while Kiveton Park took 17 points.
