Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship round-up: Clipstone well beaten by Anston

Clipstone were under pressure from the off on Saturday, as they could only field a depleted team of 10 men at Anston.

And it proved too much of a mountain to climb, as Championship rivals put up a huge total in the first innings.

Anston made 326-7 off their 50 overs. 

Clipstone were able to offer seven different bowlers in their restricted team, but Callum Smith opened the batting and made a solid 70 runs.

Andrew Pickering, batting at number three, made 85 with a third half century being provided for the home team by Amila Perera (68).

Clipstone could only reach 100 in reply before the final wicket fell.

Glapwell won the toss at Edwinstowe and elected to field.

The home team took full batting points when they forced the total to 202 all out.

James Dobson made an impressive total of 69. 

Glapwell’s Joseph Stone made his introduction to the team very worthwhile in recording 8-45.

The visitor’s choice to bat second was justified in their convincing reply for the loss of only three wickets, meeting the target in the 45th over. Stephen Gooding contributed 50 with the young John Skinner making a top score of 75*.

Edwinstowe were able to take five points from this fixture with the maximum of 20 achieved by the visitors.

Mansfield Hosiery Mills won the toss at their home fixture and invited the visiting North Wheatley with Leverton team to bat first.

The visitors made 224-6, with a top score from Johnny Loates of 67*.

With the loss of only two wickets the home team met their target with nine overs spare. 

Kamal Manek made 55 with Tom New remaining not out for 89.   

With four games to go Papplewick & Linby hold on to top spot. 

Retford’s Cricket Field Lane was the destination for the Championship leaders on Saturday, as they batted first in a draw.

Full batting points were achieved comfortably with a total of 220-8.

Justin Braithwaite’s 44 and Taimoor Khan’s 56 provided the leaders’ batting highlights.

Retford made 153-7, Greg Mann making the highest contribution with 42*. 

Alex Hudson took 5-66. 

The home team attained a further six points from this game while the winning draw meant that Papplewick were only three shy of the maximum, taking 17.

The game at Central Avenue saw a high scoring draw which favoured the hosts Worksop, who took 18 points. 

They were put into to bat by Thoresby and built a score of 222-8. 

Tim Smith Jnr opened the batting and scored 48, with brother Conor adding 42 and Bernard Beukman 52. 

Thoresby’s Tebogo Mokwena took 4-57. 

In response, the target eluded Thoresby, making 184-9.

Robert Shead sustained the efforts of the middle order with a secure 50.
