Clipstone back on form with vital victory over rivals

Fourth-placed Clipstone Colliery closed the gap on the side above them in the Bassetlaw League Championship after a 53-run home win.

Clipstone, beaten the previous week, were bowled out in the 50th over for 233 and then dismissed Thoresby Colliery for 180 in their reply.

Mid-table Cuckney 2nds were unable to halt the march of leaders Papplewick and Linby.

Put into bat, Cuckney posted 186 thanks largely to 89 from opener Will Ullyott and 35 from Richard Bostock.

Ullyott struck 12 boundaries as the pair added 113 runs for the fifth wicket, rescuring Cuckney from 18 for four.

Bostock managed four fours in his supporting role,

Gareth Price and Mark Langford also reached double figures to guide Cuckney to 186.

Papplewick and Linby’s wicket-taking was led by Charlie Blatherwick’s three for 43 from 12.5 overs.

Six bowlers claimed wickets with Jim Rhodes and Richard Hodgkinson, who opened the attack, taking two apiece.

Rhodes claimed two for 39 from 12 overs and Richard Hodgkinson finished with two for 23.

In response, Papplewick and Linby looked untroubled as they won by three wickets.

Their task was made much easier by a quick-fire 66 from opener Shaun Levy, who struck nine boundaries in his 81-ball innings.

He shared a third-wicket stand of 115 with Tom Bowers, who struck 61.
