Chuter is guest at Mansfield rugby dinner

Mansfield Rugby Club officials, members and guests gathered with guest speaker, former England International and Leicester Tigers legend George Chuter, for the club’s annual dinner.

The evening was another resounding success and made more special as the club was celebrating a record 19th County Cup victory, which was also their sixth consecutive win.

Jonathan Williams was named player of the year and retiring coaches Steve Shaw and Keith Calladine were named clubmen of the year and also presented with a special commemorative plaque recognising their contribution to the club.

Club chairman Andy Foster was presented with the President’s Award and also made an honorary life member of the club in recognition of his 14 years in office and contribution to the club.

Other awards went to Bill Williams (Edgar Crewe Memorial Award for supporter of the year), Diane Revill (Stan Searle Bursary Award for administration), Neil Repton (Martin Whitehead Memorial Award for significant off-field contribution), Jack Parr (Club Captain’s Award for significant on-field contribution), Ash Wills (highest try scorer) and Josh Hall (most improved player).

Chairman Andy Foster received the award and honorary life membership from club president Byron Edwards and said: “This certainly came as a very pleasant surprise and naturally I feel greatly honoured.

“When I look at the people who have been honoured in this way it is extremely humbling to join that list of names.”
