“We have hit the ground running and its pleasing to see that we are taking our training ground work into the games now, making a real difference.

“We have some areas to work on still but it’s early and we just really haven’t had the time. So this group of guys can really only get better as the season progresses. It’s a great start for them all.”

Buxton struck early on with a couple of well worked set piece plays leading to trys for Waine from a driving line out and a 60m dash from Mellor from a scrum turnover deep in their own half, Lomas converting both tries.

Waine went over again shortly after in the corner following a planned line out off captain de Groot, converted again from wide out by Lomas.

Amber Valley had a brief period of possession with repeated drives held out by Buxton’s resolute defence before the Stags struck again from Mellor and Austin, again from two training ground moves.

Mellor then bagged another for his hat-trick, converted by Lomas, for a 42-0 lead after 29 minutes.

Waine then bagged his hat-trick for a 49-0 half-time lead to the Stags.

The second half took some time to get going and with Stags introducing five interchanges from the bench an inevitable short term drop-off before Mellor went in for his fourth from 50m, converted again by the flawless Lomas from wide out.
