Ollerton teacher Molly Ecott ready for date with history

Ollerton schoolteacher Molly Ecott makes history next month.

The 21 year old takes part in the women’s boxing match staged at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.

Promoter Sam ‘Hollywood’ Godfrey is hoping for a 5,000 crowd at his ‘BoxMania’ show on Saturday, July 14 – and fight fans will see Ecott take on ZeeJay Ruffin over four rounds.

Ecott is unbeaten in her first three fights (one draw) and said: “This is massive.

“I like the idea of boxing in front of all those people – but there will definitely be nerves.

“I’m boxing in front of so many people and I want to be remembered for winning the first women’s fight at the Motorpoint Arena – not losing it !”

Ecott only took up boxing around 14 months ago at the Elite Fight Factory under coach Paul Hillman.

“I used to play football,” she explained, “and some of my friends started going to the gym.

“I went along to watch, ended up taking part in a boxing session and I loved it – so I kept going.

“It’s much better than football.

“Boxing is way more challenging and you have to put the work in, which is what I enjoy.”

Even when she isn’t in the gym, Ecott is studying boxing.

“I’m always watching (women’s world champion) Katie Taylor on YouTube,” she said.

“She is so quick and technically good. I have to slow down her videos to see what she’s doing, that’s how fast she is.

“I work on my technique a lot. I want to get in there and look good.”

Looking ahead, Ecott said: “I want to remain undefeated, get as many belts as I can and see how far I can take it.

“I’m hoping my next fight is the first of many big fights.”
