Thumped Thoresby Colliery found out why Papplewick and Linby have been crowned the runaway champions of the Bassetlaw League when suffering a defeat that cost them second spot in the Championship table.

After being put into bat at Papplewick Hall, Thoresby started well enough, easing to 141-2 in the hands of Mitchell English (69) and Lee Willis (39). But then came a dramatic collapse, losing eight wickets for 32 runs to crash to 173 all out as Simon Roberts took 5-50 and Jim Rhodes 3-36. In reply, Papplewick reached 175-5 inside 40 overs, with James Taylor making 67. Thoresby slip to third, one point behind North Wheatley with Leverton, with one match, at home to Blidworth Colliery Welfare, to go on Saturday. Wheatley travel to Clipstone Welfare.

Fifth in the table, just 11 points behind Thoresby, are Cuckney 2nd after a 43-run win condemned Edwinstowe to relegation. Thanks to 92 from Dan Brown and 73 from Joseph Hayes, Cuckney made 236-5 before Dave France’s four-wicket tally helped to dismiss the visitors for 193.

Mid-tablers Clipstone and Blidworth both lost. The former sank to 53 all out at Anston, who had made 229-6, while the latter’s total of 176 was not enough at Ordsall Bridon, who responded with 181-4.
