Bad-tempered game sees Selston progress into semi-finals

Selston remain top of the league but were once again in cup action on Saturday as they beat Ruddington Village 2-0 in the quarter-final of the Senior Cup.

A remarkable start to the game saw both sides down to nine men by half-time, with Selston’s Joe Riley sent off after just five minutes, Gary Breach and a Ruddington opponent sent off together after a tussle on 40 and then another Ruddington red card on half-time.

Selston broke the deadlock on 72 minutes when Dominic Airey picked the ball up 25 yards out and drove in a low shot which found the corner of the net.

Airey then added the second on 85 as he punished a goalkeeping error to seal the win.

Selston will face Wollaton at a neutral venue in the semi-finals after Wollaton beat Underwood Villa 5-0.

In the Senior Division, Awsworth Villa romped to a 7-1 win over bottom side Kirton Brickworks to move up to 13th spot.

Two goals each from Josh Broad, Channon Davis and Joe Maguire and a strike from Hezron Jones ensured a comfortable victory.

Kimberley MW Reserves won 1-0 against Hucknall RRL Reserves in the Junior Cup, Scott Carlile with the goal.

Luke Morledge and Juan Vickers were on target for Awsworth Villa Reserves as they lost 8-2 in Division One,

In Division Two, Watnall Athletic are back on top of the league after a 5-0 over Nottinghamshire Reserves.
