Ashfield started strongly and scored their first after winning a scrum deep in the Lutterworth half.

Number 8, Chip Harrison, took the ball blind from the scrum, good support from the forwards meant the ball was recycled quickly to flanker Vicky Fegan who scored. Harrison slotted a difficult conversion home.

Ashfield kept the pressure on, scrum half Bek Daft, made a break from a penalty, the pass to Danii Booth would have seen her score had it not been judged forward.

The forward players kept the pressure on; prop Mandy Taylor, making a comeback from injury, had several runs showing her strength.

Booth didn’t have to wait long before she did score under the posts when the ball came cleanly from a dominant Ashfield scrum. Harrison once again got the conversion.

Lutterworth had got stronger as the half went on and some continued pressure saw them awarded a penalty try towards the end of the first half, making the score 14-7 at the break.

Ashfield spent much of the second half defending; centre Lauren Dearing, players’ player of the match kept a constant pressure on the Lutterworth backline. Prop, Shannon Poxon and coaches’ player of the match, Eve Byrne at flank, tried desperately to disrupt the Lutterworth rucks.

Ashfield couldn’t build pressure when they did win the ball because they started to give away penalties as tiredness set in.

Eventually Lutterworth found the overlap on the right hand side and despite a desperate effort by winger Ellis Thorpe, they scored down the wing. They could not get the conversion.

Fegan had one last break down the left hand side, going past three Lutterworth players as she ran 50 meters before she was tackled into touch which signalled the end of the match.
