Ashfield ladies maintain form after Festive break

Ashfield Rugby Club Ladies returned from their festive break to maintain their good form with a 10-5 victory at Derby against a very competitive side and in somewhat dubious playing conditions.

The first half was nip and tuck with both sides enjoying good possession without really threatening the try line.

This was a forwards game, especially with the heavy going, but the backs did contribute to this entertaining encounter.

Derby just edged the first half with a good try to give them a 5-0 lead at the break.

The game restarted and again was confined to centre field until Ashfield Danii Booth scored her first try and, with a missed conversion, the score was all square.

Ashfield had more opportunities to extend their lead, but a missed penalty by Trish Hart and a disallowed Mandy Taylor try made this a tighter game than maybe it should have been.

With the game almost over, Ally Sanders scored her first try for Ashfield.
