Amberr Valley Spartans beaten by Ilkeston Falcons

Amber Valley Spartans II were beaten 60-45 by the Ilkeston Falcons on Friday night,

Spartans started out on the back foot and even though they dug deep defensively in the first, baskets didn’t seem to fall leaving an uphill battle for the rest of the match.

Rolling into the second quarter the team started to gain traction and offensively fought to close the gap.

The team changed their defence and this clearly impacted their progress.

More shots were successful and the defence was tighter and, by half-time, the team had closed the gap to seven points, which had been as large as 15.

The Coaches harsh but true words in the locker room must have had an impact to the players as the players started strong in the third.

It seemed like if they continued, the opportunity to take the game was there.

Offensively, the team worked hard to build the bridge but defensively guys just didn’t pick up allowing second chance shots and several uncontested three’s to further extend Ilkeston’s lead in the later stages of the quarter.

Coming into the fourth the result looked final as Ilkeston’s confidence grew and Spartans decreased.
