Josh Law aiming to make big name for himself at Motherwell FC after Alfreton Town move

The versatile 24-year-old has joined the SPL runners-up on a one-year deal after making 239 appearances during a memorable seven seasons at Alfreton.

And Law (24), who helped push The Reds to the verge of the play-offs last season, now hopes to emulate his brother Nicky’s success at Fir Park.

Nicky helped The Steelman qualify for Europe twice between 2011 and 2013 before he moved to Glasgow Rangers at the start of the 2013 season.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get into pre-season training,” said Law.

“I have known about the possibility of the move for the last two months so it is nice to be able to finally announce it.

“The move is a massive step up for me, but I have been training at Motherwell on and off so they could have a look at me.

“They have shown faith in me and it gives me the confidence that I can make the step up and establish myself in the first team.

“I have had offers, and good offers, from other clubs in England, but I felt Motherwell was the right option for me.

“I spoke to my brother and he said Motherwell would be good for me.

“Nicky had great success there and is obviously very popular at the club. There will be comparisons between me and him for the first few months, that is normal, but obviously I want to establish myself in my own right and make a name for myself.

And, despite Rangers not being in the SPL this season, Law says he still hopes he can battle brother Nicky on the pitch.

“It is a shame that Rangers are not in the SPL this season,” he added. “I am hoping that they can get promoted back to the SPL.

“I have had a few jokes with my brother about playing them. It would be great if we could draw them in one of the cups, but perhaps not for my mum who would have to sit on the fence.

“I cannot wait to play in the European qualifiers and against Celtic at Celtic Park, it is a really exciting proposition and I hope I can play my part.”

Law won the Players’ Player of the Season Award at Alfreton and was also named in the Blue Square Bet North Team during the 2010/11 season.

He added: “I will be sad to leave Alfreton Town, I will miss the staff, the chairman and the fans who have all been very good to me during my time at the club.

“We enjoyed success during my time at the club and hopefully they can continue that next season.

“I have had chances to leave the club before but stayed loyal to Alfreton. The time is now right for both sides.”
