A budget video doorbell has dropped to £19.99 on Amazon, offering HD footage, motion alerts and two-way audio for less than £20

Video doorbells needn't be a big investment. They're a very effective first line of defence in making your home secure, and a handy way to guard against doorstep thieves if parcels arrive while you're out - but they can also be very cheap.

Take, for example, this FineLuck video doorbell on Amazon. It's only £19.99, thanks to a 43% discount that's on offer until next week.

It has all the features of a £100 doorbell, including 1080p HD footage, AI detection, night-vision, two-way audio, and a plug-in chime, but it costs a fraction of the price.

Wireless video doorbells are easy to install, you just stick one to your front door or screw it to the wall, plug in the chime, connect it all up to your WiFi, and away you go.

This one doesn't make any promises about smart home compatibility, so you won't be able to link it up to Alexa, and there's no native storage - the only way to keep your clips is to sign up to a $29.99 cloud storage. That's currently about £23 in our money.

But you don't need to do that. Out of the box, this will alert you to people approaching your door, let you know if they press the button, and talk to any visitors who arrive while you're not in.

You can't really get better than this for just £20.
