A free online service is helping UK senders compare courier prices in seconds, with some deliveries costing pounds less than booking direct

Sending parcels from place to place is getting pricey - but there's a way to save a lot of money using a free online comparison service.

And, not only will it find the lowest price available, it'll be cheaper than going directly to the postal service.

It's called Parcel2Go and it looks at the shape, size, and weight of the item you're sending, and digs out deals for you.

For example, if you're sending what Royal Mail would class as a "large letter", it would cost £2.95 on a tracked 48-hour service if you went directly to Royalmail.com - however, if you used Parcel2Go the same service would cost £2.75.

It's a small saving, but here's where it gets even cleverer. A quick search on Parcel2Go finds that Evri will send your parcel for even less, on its two+day delivery service, the same package would cost £2.58.

The savings become more significant when you're sending a bigger parcel. Royal Mail will charge £8.60 for a medium parcel weighing up to 10KG on a tracked 48 hour service, but the cheapest price on Parcel2Go is £5.39, for a two+day delivery with Evri.

DPD will also offer the same service for £6.45, and even Royal Mail drops its price through Parcel2Go, to £7.05.

It's worth remembering that adding parcel protection will increase the price, sometimes significantly, if it's a valuable package, but it still works out less expensive than going directly to the courier.

International shipping is also part of the service, and Parcel2Go promises to offer the cheapest domestic and international prices for delivery-only services in the UK.

Parcel2Go lets you alter shipping times, parcel sizes, and whether you want to drop off your parcel or have it collected, and it'll quickly rustle up a fresh batch of quotes for you. You can then print off your label, or get your consignment ready for sending all from the website.

Since 2001, Parcel2Go has helped customers find the cheapest prices for 83 million parcels.
