The UK has been hit by severe wintry conditions over the past few days, with heavy snowfall and temperatures below freezing in some areas.

But has the country seen the last of the snow for now or will it continue to hit this week?

Here’s the snow forecast for the rest of the week.

The remaining week ahead

The Met Office said on Wednesday (10 Feb) that “cold weather, with a continuing risk of snow, grips the UK for the rest of the week before milder air gradually spreads in from the west.”

Thursday (11 Feb) will be a cold day, but most places will see fine and dry weather with some sunshine and lighter winds than recent days.

However, the Met Office has forecast “a few sleet and snow showers in the northeast. Cloudier with light sleet and snow at times in the southwest.”

Thursday evening will be “cloudy in the far west and southwest with strong winds and coastal gales possible.” However, it will be less cold than of late in these areas.

Elsewhere, it will be cold but mostly dry, though more snow showers are forecast for east Scotland.

Snow showers will continue in this area of Scotland on Friday (12 Feb), but it will be mostly dry and fine elsewhere. However, it will remain cold.

“Cloudier in the west and southwest with a little sleet and snow possible later,” adds the Met Office.

The Met Office UK outlook for Saturday (13 Feb) to Monday (15 Feb) forecasts “rain and snow for some western areas Saturday, heaviest for Northern Ireland. Further rain and snow spreads east Sunday, with milder weather slowly following for the start of next week.”

The cold weather of late is set to turn into generally milder conditions next week, but snow is still possible in some areas.

The Met Office said it will be “rather cloudy with rain at times into Monday with any snow likely being restricted to the high grounds of Scotland, though there is signal for some widespread snow to low levels plausible.

“Temperatures remain split, with the northeast seeing around average while feeling milder in the south and west.”

Through the rest of next week, conditions look likely to turn milder and wetter, with the heaviest and most frequent spells of rain and showers likely to be in the west and conditions drier and brighter at times in the east.

However, “by next weekend colder and drier conditions may gradually become established once again,” the Met Office said.
