Combatting lockdown weight gain and helping their mental health were the top reasons many Britons are turning to some form of physical exercise whilst in lockdown, as well as simply being a reason to get out of the house.
Researchers also analysed Google Trends to determine what the key searches were around fitness and physical activity, with an increase in the number of people looking online to find when the gyms will be reopening.
In the past 30 days there has been a 300 per cent increase in the number of searches for ‘gym reopening’ and a further 250 per cent increase in the number of searches for ‘PureGym reopening’.

“Exercise has many benefits, from keeping us fit and healthy to stimulating the brain and helping to ease the effects some may be facing around their mental health.
“Working out in any capacity releases endorphins, known to help trigger a positive feeling.”The researchers carried out a snap poll of almost 1,800 people to achieve their findings.
