Chasing Len’s career as a journalist, the couple moved to Nottingham so he could work on the Nottingham Journal and Evening News in 1966.

While raising her two boys, Zena pursued her love of music by learning to play the keyboards and writing her own music.

Melissa Carter, activities coordinator at Sutton Manor Residential Home where Zena is now cared for, said: “We had a lovely day celebrating Zena’s 100th birthday. We all shared a glass of champagne and some lovely chocolates which are her favourite. The champagne went down a treat.”

Zena’s son David died in 1967. Son Bruce and his wife Hillary visited her with grandchildren Steven and Caroline on her birthday.
